Reflection

Throughout this portfolio, I have touched upon various different elements of Gibb’s, G., (1988) reflective model.

During my 140-hour internship, I faced various challenging situations. These included dealing with indecisive clients and collecting as well as analyzing demographic data.

This Internship has allowed me to put my 5 year’s worth of marketing knowledge into practice, from this I have learnt a wide range of things. One of the things that I have learnt is that when it comes to working in a professional environment things are not always as straightforward as they seem, there will be small things which arise / which can have a significant impact on the work environment, I experienced this as when my client would not implement the recommendations or provide approval for things as he was “too busy” or had “forgotten” this put me massively behind schedule especially, after having to alter the structure and content of the marketing report due to a change in the client’s demand.

I have also learnt then when it comes to working with a client it is more challenging than I had already thought, as it felt as if I had to ‘manage my manager’ and they would not stick to deadlines which meant in order to keep things on schedule I had to keep chasing him over email, message an in-person however, taught me the importance of being able to be flexible as well as the importance in having a clear line of communication.

I have also experienced what it is like to work in a professional team and the differences between that and university. Overall it has been an amazing journey with many up and many down, but everything that has happened has taught me the different ways in which I can deal with it better equipping me for future clients and situations.
